Connecting Digitally with Your Kids

For Father’s Day my son cracked me up when he wrote in my card, “I love you more than the games on my ipad! :)” So touching. But the reality is, my son is growing up in an age where he plays on an ipad as much as he does with physical toys and games. I’m delighted that Lego still captures his imagination as much as Minecraft, and that he’d still rather play outside than on his X-box, but at the same time I have a love-hate relationship with iPad games. There are times I wish he didn’t have one – but I also realize that touch-tablet technology is the world he is growing up in. While he can use the family iMac with ease, it is very likely that by the time he is a teenager, the computers we use will be the technological dinosaurs of a past age. I enjoyed growing up using the very first personal computers and leaping on each advancement as they came out. Even waiting in line for a new Apple OS to be released instead of the free downloads of today. But this ‘Old Dog’ has to recognize that both the reality of…

Take Your Kids on a Great Adventure!

Last Saturday night I had so much fun getting ready to launch The Great Adventure Cards on Sunday. I mixed up the cards, put up the poster that shows all of them, and got ready to introduce them in children’s church. It was a HIT! Kids earn these cards these cards for coming to church, bringing their Bible, inviting a friend, and rewards for participating – answering questions, games, etc. They can compare the cards they got the poster and work to collect series. Once they complete series, they can win small prizes if they can answer the simple questions on the cards. This requires them to look up the Bible verses which gets them into the Word of God. I love visiting homes and seeing bundles of Bible trading cards on the kitchen table next to a Bible! Parents love them too. Here is a video I filmed Saturday Night that shows the cards and explains it a little more: Soon your kids will be enjoying collecting these as much as the kids at my church! Get Your Great Adventure Cards Today!

Super Bible Bowl is Back and UPDATED!

There are nearly 24,000 Zone Posts on Kidology.org with ideas, lessons, crafts, games and more. One of the most popular for years has been my Super Bible Bowl. It is actually the 282nd Zone Post – so that tells you how far back it goes! (It was first published in 2003, but created long before that.) As I was reviewing it recently I realized it was still made up of OVERHEAD PROJECTOR slides since I created it so long ago. Who uses those anymore? So all the graphics were portrait instead of the landscape format we use today. It was time to update! I updated the images, the lesson, tweaked the rules, and even included all the Bible trivia questions you need so you don’t have to collect those to play. It includes: Illustrated lesson on sharing the Good News of Jesus, using the game of football as an object lesson. All needed graphics for a giant football playing board. Posters with the rules for easy reference. PowerPoint to go along with the lesson. Complete rules to the Kidologist’s fun, interactive game of Bible Football. A collection of PDF files to download and print for both the lesson and the…

Dan Huffman and Creatively Reaching Kids

Kidology.org is the small ministry publisher. Dan Huffman is one of the most creative Children’s Pastors that I know. He often credits Kidology with helping him get started and providing his “blue print” for ministry – but since then, he has always blown me away with the creative ways he reaches children. One of the BEST Christmas Series I’ve ever seen is Dan’s The Stars of Christmas! Dan understands the value of video teaching – but has created a strategy he called “Media Rich but Teacher Driven.” As Dan says, “kids learn best when they are known and loved,” so small group times are done throughout the entire teaching experience. Best of all – he designed it to be easy! But ‘easy’ doesn’t mean it isn’t excellent. It is Top Notch! He is also the creator of the Great Adventure Cards – something he created to counter the obsession with Pokemon Cards that he observed in his ministry. A spin-off from these amazing Bible Cards is the Good News Cards, one of the most engaging and fun Gospel presentations I’ve ever seen. While the Bible Cards are earned for coming to church, bringing your Bible, friends, participating, etc. – The Good…
