I HATE PAPER!

karlpaperpiles.jpg

I am cleaning up my office today (my inspiration) and going through stack of EVIL PAPER. Part of the problem is that I prefer documents electronically and tend to ignore paper, the other problem is that there is too much that can’t be stored electronically, gets forgotten if electronic, I don’t really know what to DO with, or I’m just too stinkin’ sentimental about some, ok, a LOT of my paper.

I am also trying to get caught up on a bunch of personal organizational stuff I am behind on because next Friday I will be in line all day to get an iPhone, and it will be my “fresh start” at organization since I will finally have a reliable (fingers crossed!) tool for managing my calendar and to-do’s. (Palm Treo w/ Mac has proven untrustworthy, so I’ve been limping along waiting for an Apple PDA)

  1. I just keep piling up paper until I open the window and it blows away.

  2. I will post more after i have more time, because I am very interested in this topic. But here are a few quick things I can add for now.

I have trained everyone that if they want to get my attention they need to give it to me electronically. If it is in paper I will lose it. If it is electronically I never lose it.

I am just the opposite of you with paper. If it is in paper version i never remember it.

When ever i even open the mail, i stand by a trash can and sort the mail and toss right then. Any mail that makes it further I go and do something with it then. I get all my bills, newsletters, calendars, Kidology reports and so much more now electronically, my mail has really turned to most junk stuff now.

I have a pen scanner that scans what little paper I do get into electronic PDF’s format and I file the paper quickly and the electronic version as well. One i forget about and the other I don’t. Sometimes if someone is trying to give me paper and i don’t need to take it, i will scan it and leave the paper with them and sync the pen scanner later or send to an email address I have set up just for these type of doc’s for myself.

Those are a few quick ways I handle, or don’t handle paper. I also am a big fan of Jott.com and a couple other beta form stuff that is being developed.

    I use Jott

  3. Karl, I heard people talking about the IPhone on the radio and they were saying the only thing they didn’t like about it was how little memory it had. I never did hear how much memory it has. How much? Just curious. Thanks.

Karl: you can choose between 4 and 8 GB. Not much when you are used to a 40 or 80 GB iPod, but HUGE when you are talking about a phone.
