It’s hard to believe it has been a year since I started as the children’s pastor at the Rock of Southwest! As I reflect back on the year, it is so satisfying to think of all the amazing things I have gotten to do as I’ve worked with some incredible staff and volunteers! Just scrolling through my Facebook wall is overwhelming and brings back so many memories.
I inherited a ministry that was well staffed both from paid staff and volunteers; a place where kids were valued and where there was freedom to be creative and try new things. It was nice to start a ministry that wasn’t “on fire” and be able to build upon a solid foundation.
Here are some of the highlights for me from the past year:
We started with “POOF” – a meet the new Kids Pastor magic show that was a lot of fun!- Relaunching children’s church as The Outpost and teaming up with some amazingly creative volunteers to bring a whole new level of large group learning filled with time machines, Minecraft portals, fun green screen videos, puppets and more!
- Launching The Outpost Crew and getting kids involved in leadership! Making videos with them! Like the Wordless Book skit
or making Worship Videos with the kids. - Branding our website and email for the kids ministry to www.KidsRock.church
- Creating a closed Facebook Group for our parents and volunteers. (no link, sorry, just for Rock folks.)
- Re-branding our midweek program, The Blast Zone.
- Bringing in Josh Denhart and The Amazing Chemistry Show PLUS doing his Science VBS
a few weeks later! - Getting SLIMED!
- Introducing the Next Steps for Kids class for parents and children to learn together!
- Participating in the Great Stack Up!
- Creating a Rubiks Revolution among the kids!
- Running a Minecraft Realm to play with kids online from the church.
- Having fun with a walking (talking) snowman or walking puppet stage!
- Creating the Super Bible Bowl and the Bible-O-Rama Sunday!
- Watching so many kids make decisions for Christ, especially when Barney Kinard came and we had a huge harvest!
- Spooky Sunday showed Death no longer has any sting thanks to Jesus!
- Bringing in JumpStart3 for a Kids Worship Concert and Brett Belleque for a Balloon Sunday!
- Relaunching Toybox Tales with the Armor of God and the Dark Evil Man series! (One sample, more on my YouTube Channel)
- Getting to completely design the Children’s Wing for our new building that opens up later this year. (Lord willing, by Christmas)
- Participating as a leader in our annual 5-6th Grade Mission Trip last week.
