I’ve seen too many leaders burn out, flame out, or quietly fade away—not because they lacked passion, but because they neglected their own soul. I don’t want that to be my story. I want to be faithful for the long haul. That’s why I live by this covenant—a set of practices that keep me aligned with God, anchored in truth, and fueled by grace.
Covenant Commitment #9:
I will do everything as if I am doing it for the Lord, because I am.
Some days in ministry feel deeply spiritual—praying with a child to receive Christ, watching a volunteer thrive, hearing a parent say thank you. But other days? You’re filling goldfish cups. Untangling mic cords. Chasing down supplies. Cleaning up glitter.
Again.
It’s easy to start thinking, “This doesn’t matter,” or worse, “This is beneath me.” But Scripture flips that thinking upside down.
Colossians 3:23–24 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters… It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” That means everything matters. Every chair you set up. Every hand you shake. Every slide you fix. Every diaper you change. It’s all for Him.
When we shift our mindset from “I have to” to “I get to serve Jesus through this,” it transforms even the smallest acts into worship. It infuses purpose into the ordinary. Suddenly, ministry isn’t just about what we do—it’s about who we’re doing it for.
1 Corinthians 10:31 echoes this: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” That “whatever” covers a lot. It means there’s no such thing as a “small” task in the kingdom. There are only moments to glorify God—through our attitude, our excellence, and our faithfulness.
And Romans 12:11 adds, “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” It’s not always easy to stay enthusiastic, especially when the work feels repetitive or underappreciated. But when our eyes are on Jesus, our motivation is renewed. We’re not just serving our church—we’re serving our Savior.
This covenant commitment reminds us that our real Boss sees it all. He sees what no one else notices. He rewards what others overlook. And when we give our best, not for applause but out of love for Him, that’s when we reflect His heart most.
So the next time you’re tempted to grumble through the mundane, pause. Whisper a simple prayer: “Lord, I’m doing this for You.” And then do it with joy.
Next: Kidmin Covenant #10 – “I will pass on any praise I receive to those who helped, inspired, guided or assisted, and ultimately to Jesus.”
We’ll talk about how giving credit and redirecting praise builds a culture of humility, gratitude, and worship.
