Luke Discovers That White Stuff

Luke’s early excursions into the snow were met with suspicion and hesitation… what was all this cold stuff blanketing the world in white? He treated it as an odd substance he didn’t want to get too close too, and his first attempted ride in a sled brought tears. So Dad surrendered and hasn’t tried to get Luke into the snow much. But this 6-8 inch snow fall this week was worth a second try, and this time Luke loved it! Just wanted to share some pictures of Luke and Daddy playing in the snow. Always remember, though, Mom was there too, she just prefers the other side of the camera most of the time. Thanks mom for some great pics! All bundled up and ready to try the snow again… Knee deep and checking it out… The verdict is in… he cool with it. (pun intended) He even let Daddy pull him around in circles in the sled! Daddy tried to impress his son with Snow Blocks… to no avail. Luke’s version of fun was smashing the blocks faster than Dad could make them. But the smile was all Dad was hoping to build. Next time: Luke learns how to…

A Christmas Eve Tradition Reborn!

Christmas is a time of traditions and memories. Some are too special to allow to fade… Every Christmas Eve I would climb on my dads lap along with my siblings and our dad would read us the The Night Before Christmas. It was a wonderful tradition that we continued even until grown adults were crowding onto his lap. When I finally became a father myself one of the things I was eager to do was start my own family traditions. Last Christmas my dad surprised me by giving me the very book he read the story from during my childhood! We both took turns reading to my son, but not until after my dad read us a poem he wrote as he passed this tradition down to his oldest son: ‘Twas Our Night Before Christmas Every night before Christmas In th’ young Bastian hom Eager children were restless: “Dad Santa” would roam. It was mostly our secret To play Santa’s game; But we knew it was Jesus Who down to earth came. For the kids, it’s a mixture Of shepherds and elves, Of both chimney and manger, And toys for their shelves. So now I, without nightcap, Would sit in…

My Little Magicians Assistant

Yesterday Luke and I got to go on one of our “adventures.” (Every time we leave the house it is an “adventure” – Luke lights up and grabs his coat if we say “wanna go on an adventure?”) The adventure this time wasn’t shopping errands or out to eat but to visit the 3rd grade glass of one of my employees (her daughter that is!) to do a little last-day-of-school-before-Christmas party entertainment. After checking in to the office for our visitor stickers we were off! They said to put the sticker somewhere prominent! As you can see by these pictures taken by my bookkeeper, Patti, Luke never left my side! He seemed a little overwhelmed by all the kids. I hope he doesn’t figure out all my secrets from the close up spot! Well, at least if he figures them out, he can’t tell anyone! It felt funny to have him clinging to me the entire time. Eventually he found the courage to venture within ten feet of me. I actually can’t wait until he gets older and officially be my stage assistant… poor Luke will be levitated, cut in half, vanished and (hopefully) reappeared when the time comes. Until…

Luke Loves Christmas!

I either get teased for blogging too much about Luke, or bugged for not blogging pictures of him enough… so by popular demand, here are some pictures of Luke who is LOVIN’ the Christmas season! Setting up the Christmas Tree was a blast! He must have walked around it over a hundred times while dad was doing all the lights and ornaments! [flv]http://www.kidologist.com/flash/luke/luke-xmas-train-dec07.flv[/flv] But then the train was the best part, it goes around and around and around. The best part is it is “voice activated” – I say “GO TRAIN GO” and it goes, and “STOP TRAIN STOP” and it magically stops! And now Luke can say “Go” and “Stop” to control the train too. (and no, I’m not giving away my secret to how it is voice controlled!) Next, Luke discovered that there are presents under the tree, and he brought this one to me to open! He is doing pretty good waiting, though I did see him ripping a corner of one of Mom’s presents! Luke has also discovered CHRISTMAS COOKIES! Yum! Yum! [flv]http://www.kidologist.com/flash/luke/luke-at-wendys-dec07.flv[/flv] He also enjoyed his evening out with Dad (giving Mom a Lukeless evening) where he discovered how yummy a Wendy’s Frosty is! He…
