Beautiful evening for a bike ride….

I have gotten the spider webs and dust off of my recumbent and after a tune-up, and getting back into using it as my excerisize bike. I’m hoping to put a few hundred miles on it this summer after a few years of slacking off. Went for an evening ride this week…. and it was beautiful…

Unaltered photo taken at 20mph on the Millennium Trail near my house. They just completed this segment of the trail and I plan to soon explore it and figure out where/how far it goes.

Slightly altered photo to show the awesome colors of the sky. Reminds me of Psalm 14:1, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ “

Saw four deer… here are three, and it turns out it is TRUE, deer eyes DO light up! Funny how my camera flash lit up their eyes! They seemed unbothered by the passing bike.

A picture of my bike from a few years ago. I LOVE this bike. it has 48 gears, and go up to 60 mph. (though I’ve only been up to 38 mph on mine.) You sit back in the comfy chair can peddle with your feet out in front of you. It even has a speedometer on it so I can make sure not to go above the speed limit again. (I once got pulled over by a cop for going 36 in a 25mph zone!)

LIVE IN CHICAGO AREA?
I am planning to do the LATE NITE bike ride again, I’ve not done it since 2002! If you are a biker, post and say hi! Curious how many bike enthusiasts are out there reading my blog.

  1. OK, I’ll bite. 3 year “Bike the Drive” veteran (2004, 2005, 2006). We’ll probably be doing the LATE ride as well, which will be new for us. Bring it on!

Great to hear you pull the recumbent out of storage. A nice machine like that shouldn’t go to waste!

  2. OOOPS! Thanks the many who emailed about my bad link above…. big ooops. Wow, what one little typo can do! It is fixed now. For those who missed it, you’ll just have to wonder.

At least now I know my blog is actually read, judging from all the emails I got about the bad link! :-)

  3. Karl,

Biking is a huge hobby of mine. Happy travels and great shots! My most recent adventure on the bike was an Adventure Race in Manhattan, KS. It served as a little staff bonding time. Scott our youth pastor (the one with the beard) and I the children’s pastor had a great time.

I haven’t blogged in a week or so because we have VBS going strong this week. I will have a post up sometime next week about the VBS. It has been going very well, praise God.

  4. Biking along there does look like fun.

I don’t live in Chicago, but will be there next week for the Children’s Spirituality Conference.

  5. Is this just a long distance biker thing? I ride my bike around town all the time, I love it. But I only own BMX bikes. (That is besides my favorite bike, but that one has a 500cc engine in it). But if this is a thing all bikers can do I would love it.

  6. Allison, the Late Ride is NOT a race – but it is a long ride. but all level of bikers do it (but not with 500cc bikes!) My problem is that with the recumbent, im usually twice as fast as most the bikes with no extra effort – so keeping up with me would be a challenge, but usually peope dont always stay in a group – they just start together, and meet up at the stops along the way and visit at the finish line. its a lot of fun. the lateride web site should answer more specific questions, i’ve only done this ride once.

  7. I cannot wait to do it with you Bro. It will be a blast.

    Love ya,
    Melissa
