A Lazy Day before the Madness begins…

After a very full day at two WDW parks, today I was in the mood to chill out a bit. Sara was off to visit family, the Tanners were back to conquer another park (Magic Kingdom today, Steve’s third consecutive Magic Kingdom/Disneyland visit with rain!) while I slept in and then strolled the grounds. It’s a really nice place. Except for the Opryland in TN (2001?), this is probably the nicest place a CPC conference has been hosted. (and maybe nicer since it is outdoors and is in WDW) The grounds are absolutely beautiful. All the buildings are around a huge lagoon that you can even rent boats to go out on. I almost rented a bike, but it was sprinkling a bit and I didn’t know if it was going to get worse, so I stayed on foot. One of the things I have always appreciated about INCM and the CPCs, is that they enable Children’s pastors and workers the opportunity to go to places they might otherwise not get to go. Why should only secular businesses get to take their employees to nice locations for training? After all, we are in the most important field and occupation: REACHING…

Pastor Karl gets to meet WALT at Disney World!

Well, once again we left a day early for CPC so that we could take a bit of the local culture. Since the conference is at the Walt Disney World, we grabbed a park hopper and took in Animal Kingdom and Epcot, neither of which I’d ever been to. For the most part, everyone got along just great. This is Steve and Amy Tanner. For those who don’t know, Steve is the Director of Web Operations for Kidology.org. If you want a great write up of what Kidology is doing at CPC, his blog has a great description, I couldn’t do better, so read his. First stop was the Animal Safari… and I was pretty impressed. There were a lot of animals and ride was a lot longer than I expected. We saw a bunch of animals you normally wouldn’t see in your own neighborhood, and the jeep ride made it a lot more fun than a trip to the zoo. (Where the animals are always indoors sleeping anyway.) I won’t bog the blog with too many animal pictures, (I know its always better in person), but it was pretty cool so see so many animals up so close. Here…

MLB = Major League Brother!

Last week www.bluejays.com had my brother on the home page as Headline #3…. Well, today, he is HEADLINE #1! It was his FIRST POST as the official Blue Jays beat writer for MLB.com Of course, this big brother is proud, and so glad I taught him sooooo much about baseball! Best part is, y’all can send him e-mail questions about the Blue Jays! Like: Why do Canadian teams get to play as part of the American league when they AREN’T AMERICANS!! Are Blue Jays allowed to Jay Walk in Toronto? Do they feel Blue when they lose? Do they bring home Canadian bacon to their wives? Who’s on first? What’s on second? (I don’t know on third) and other deep and profound questions about his team. (this is just an image, if you are trying to type up there! you need to go to his article) Anyway, I’m proud of my litl’ bro – like me – he reached ten year career goals right out of college… pretty fun! That only means that there are even greater things ahead… but for now he is excited to get PAID to watch and write about baseball (and eat, sleep, and dream about…

A Mad Scientist Party! (it runs in the family….)s

No, not being mad, but being creative. My neice, Tricia, just turned 8 and her birthday party (as usual) was one of the most creative I’ve been to. (see last year’s Western theme pics) My sister, Melissa (above), goes ‘all out’ and creates the most fun birthday parties for her kids. This year was no exception as Tricia chose a Mad Scientist theme. The best compliment I heard was when one dad at the event said, “This party is like the ones you see in movies and you think, ‘no one has parties like that’, but I’m at one!” Of course, I came and got into the spirit of things as the Wacky Professor Wipplestowski. I was in charge of the Sandy Candy lab. I actually didn’t get to see everything due to workin’ my lab, but the kids rotated through several labs doing really cool and fun experiments. Wonder what these kids are cookin’ up? Looks kinda GOOOEY to me! You gonna actually EAT that!?!?!?! Future food scientist in the making. (that’s what his dad does for a living!) (The Birthday Girl) I wouldn’t drink that if I was you! CAREFUL THERE BOY! You might blow up the house!…

GO CHICAGO!!!!

Yes, I DID go out and buy me a WHITE SOX SHIRT yesterday! Couldn’t watch the final game with nothing White Sox on!!! It was a very intense game! A battle of the pitchers. My favorite WS stat was this, WAIT! I will make it a quiz, and see who is the first to post the answer in the COMMENTS! You MIGHT even win a prize!! Q: What White Sox Player became the FIRST baseball player IN HISTORY to win TWO World Series Games on the same day AND on his birthday??? (same day because Game Three went into the 14th inning and into the morning hours) Finally, THEY WON! This is me with the family I watched the game with. (Not pictured is Sara, who isn’t a baseball nut like the rest of us.) Did I convert to being a White Sox Fan and desert my Cubbies? Nope. I decided to have an AL favorite team and an NL favorite team. Now all I have to figure out is which team is in which league. (See what a serious baseball fan I am?) All I’m wondering is, when the Astros lost, did they all go in the clubhouse and…
