Luke’s Cake – Batteries Included

Luke is two. I keep asking him, “What did you do with my baby?” He is soooo big and turning into a mini boy. It seems like just yesterday….

O.K., snapping out of it, back to the present, and here we are with our little boy and his cake!

Anyway, for our little family party Sara made an awesome birthday cake. (Remember her Super Bowl cake last year?) Let me show you just how AWESOME the cake was this year!

luke2cake02.jpg

Luke LOVES cars! He points to every one he sees, even when we are out driving. And he must always have one with him at all times.

The center of our home is now a “Car Table” where he spends hours rolling them around.

So Sara made a cake perfect for a little car loving boy!

Complete with cars around all sides!

But what is that up on top? It’s a race track with cars racing around!

GOD: Discover the Benefits of His Attributes

Found an awesome bookmark near my wife’s Bible, she got it at a women’s retreat, but you don’t have to be a woman to appreciate these thoughtful reminders! I’m posting mostly for myself, so I’ll never lose this… it is great for meditating on. I hope you enjoy as well.

NASA photo taken by the Hubble Space Telescope has been labeled the ‘Eye of God.’

  1. Because God is a personal Spirit…

I will seek intimate fellowship with Him.

  2. Because God is all-powerful…

He can help me with anything.

  3. Because God is ever-present…

    He is always with me

  4. Because God knows everything…

I will go to Him with all my questions and concerns.

  5. Because God is sovereign…

I will joyfully submit to His will.

  6. Because God is holy…

I will devote myself to Him in purity, worship and service.

  7. Because God is absolute truth…

I will believe what He says and live accordingly.

  8. Because God is righteous…

I will live by His standards.

  9. Because God is just…

He will always treat me fairly.

  10. Because God is love…

He is unconditionally committed to my well-being.

  11. Because God is merciful…

He forgives me of my sins when I sincerely confess them.

  12. Because God is faithful…

I will trust Him to always keep His promises.

  13. Because God never changes…

My future is secure and eternal

Now there are some things to think about!

How Super is Winning the Super Bowl?

Reprinted from Bill Alison’s Amazing Time Management Secrets:

It’s one thing to climb the ladder of success, but it’s quite another to climb the RIGHT ladder.

Just how super is winning a Super Bowl? Consider these insights by guest blogger Josh Carter:

From the outside looking in, Tom Brady appears to have the life everyone longs for, despite not winning Super Bowl XLII. But things are different on the inside. In a past interview with 60 Minutes Brady raised the question, “Why do I have three Super Bowl rings and still think there’s something greater out there for me? I mean, maybe a lot of people would say, ‘Hey man, this is what is.’ I reached my goal, my dream, my life. Me, I think, ‘God, it’s got to be more than this.’ I mean this isn’t, this can’t be what it’s all cracked up to be.” When pressed to answer his own question, Brady responded, “I wish I knew.”

“My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor. Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:10a-11).

Solomon was a man who, like Tom Brady, had accomplished many great things on earth. However, when he stepped back to admire his achievements reality set in, and he realized that of all the things he had done, nothing gave him enduring satisfaction. He described it as “meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

Do you feel like there has got to be more to life than what you are experiencing? It is very common for many of us, because God has “set eternity in the hearts of men.” We are not created to be truly satisfied with the temporary things of this world. It is only through a relationship with Jesus Christ that we can find the lasting fulfillment we are searching for.

We must stop trying to find peace and satisfaction in the temporary things of this world and surrender our lives to Jesus. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).

Think About It…
1. Do you ever feel like your “chasing after the wind” in life? What causes this feeling?
2. When have you felt like you were doing something that has eternal value?
3. What step is God calling you to take today? (Pray about it.)

“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

What God Says…
Matthew 16:24-27; Romans 1:21-25; 1 Corinthians 2:6-14

Luke Discovers That White Stuff

Luke’s early excursions into the snow were met with suspicion and hesitation… what was all this cold stuff blanketing the world in white? He treated it as an odd substance he didn’t want to get too close too, and his first attempted ride in a sled brought tears. So Dad surrendered and hasn’t tried to get Luke into the snow much. But this 6-8 inch snow fall this week was worth a second try, and this time Luke loved it!

Just wanted to share some pictures of Luke and Daddy playing in the snow. Always remember, though, Mom was there too, she just prefers the other side of the camera most of the time. Thanks mom for some great pics!

lukesnow01.jpg

All bundled up and ready to try the snow again…

lukesnow02.jpg

Knee deep and checking it out…

lukesnow03.jpg

The verdict is in… he cool with it. (pun intended)

lukesnow04.jpg

He even let Daddy pull him around in circles in the sled!

lukesnow05.jpg

Daddy tried to impress his son with Snow Blocks… to no avail.

lukesnow06.jpg

Luke’s version of fun was smashing the blocks faster than Dad could make them. But the smile was all Dad was hoping to build.

Next time: Luke learns how to dodge snow balls!

An e-asy way to e-read the e-Bible!

A friend just told me about a site that e-mails you your daily Bible reading for free, and says:

I want to share with you a web mail service I have been using over the past three years.  If you are like me I often go about my busy schedule and forget to have time to read the Bible every day.  A few years ago I found this really cool site that emails you daily readings of the Bible in various formats and versions.  I have been using it for the past three years and it really helps me to keep on track with my daily reading.  If you follow through on each day you can finish the Bible in the course of a year.

The website is: http://www.bibleinayear.org/

You have the choice of several versions: King James, New King James, American Standard, New American Standard, World English Bible, New International, Conservative, Revised Standard.  You also can receive them in several methods: Start to finish, chronological, Alternating.

Best yet it is absolutely free, just sign up over the provided link.

As time goes on you can change your version and/or format each year and gain more insight through the scripture.

I hope you enjoy this and find it as useful as I have.

Scott Phillips

I’m gonna try it out!  Here is a screen shot:
