Baby Luke Headed to Kid U Ohio!

What is Luke doing? Why, he is choosing his workshops for Kid U in Ohio next weekend! He’s excited about the preconference Creativity Blitz and all the awesome presenters that he can learn from. So he is studying the schedule, wondering where he will lodge, checking out the directions and planning to register soon! Don’t have a brochure? You can download one here! OK, now that my director of web operations is proud of all my shameless marketing links, what is the REAL reason Luke wants to go to Kid U? Because it is where he first met me! Yes, it was at Kid U Chicago, this past March that I met this little baby boy for the first time, and as you can see, he loved me at first sight: Well, ok, maybe not… but it is so fascinating to me that at the time of this picture, I had NO IDEA that I would be adopting this precious (screaming) little boy. He wasn’t so excited about Aunt Meepa either! (at least not in this picture) And he even cried for his mom-to-be, though, again, Sara had NO IDEA at the time of this picture that we would soon…

Introducing the Senior Pastor Cam!

At our pastors/elders planning meeting last week, we came up with a great idea that is sure to sweep the country! As our church is growing, we are talking about the options for handling growth and the possibility of a video-venue service – live music/etc. in the gym and then the message from the pastor on screen from sanctuary. (Just in discussion mode, VCBers, no set plans yet) ANYWAY, someone mentioned that to make the video sermon enjoyable to watch, it would be important to offer several different camera angles rather than just one static camera showing one boring view from the back. THATS WHEN IT HIT ME! I blurted out, “THE DAVE CAM!” I slipped out to our Kids Church backstage and retrieved a helmet mounted webcam that I hooked up several years ago for Kids Church (where what/who I looked at appeared on big screen!) and returned to the serious pastor/elder meeting and plopped it on my boss’s head. Pastor Dave modeling the prototype “Dave Cam” I tried to convince the group that this was a fantastic idea! Not only would it create a great alternative view of the service, but it would provide a view of the…

Invisible People – NAME THAT MOVIE!

OK, this is just TOO COOL!! First of all, DOWNLOAD THIS EXCEL DOCUMENT. Then, open it, and try to see if how many of the movies you can figure out with the characters faces removed! For example, here is one that was easy for me: Um, these two men dressed in black were easy too: and this guy dressed in yellow: How many can you get?? It’s pretty amazing, if you give an incomplete answer, it will ask for more info, such as this one: Just type in the movie name in the top cell and hit ‘tab’ and the next cell will tell you if you are correct or not. DISCLAIMER: I’m not endorsing any movies that are ‘bad’ or rated ‘R’ – I mean, I don’t even know what half these movies ARE, but I am curious if anyone can get them all right, or who can get the most correct! USE COMMENTS TO PUT MOVIE NUMBER AND ANSWER – so don’t peek at comments until you GIVE UP!!! (so far I have 17 correct)

Workshops Online?

One of the things I am hopin’ to start doing soon is offering Kidology workshops online. I’ve already been invited to join the faculty of Children’s Ministry University Online, and am teaching my second course right now. (And will be teaching the “Pastoring Children” course for those who sign up before April 1st – join me!) My goal is to help provide online training 24/7 for children’s workers anywhere in the world who have access to the Internet. I’ve been kinda dabbling it in a little already. I put my Raising Rock Solid Kids classes online on my church CM website and have been encouraged to find out how many people are using those. A children’s pastor in Michigan told me today he has been converting them to MP3s to listen to on the road. (He has offered to send me the MP3s and I’ll add them to the site) You can check those out at: www.vcbkids.org/rocksolidkids I also just converted my first conference workshop to an MP3 file. Earlier this month I had the opportunity to minister at OCEA 2006. The only strange thing was that the company that did the recording put a 5-10 second gap every ten…

PK’s Apple MacBook Pro Review – not happy

Has the MacBook Pro lived up to all the hype? Am I still as happy about it as I was when I posted my longest blog post ever? In One line: Still rather be on a Mac, but not enjoying the return of nervousness. It is no secret – I am a convert. I love all my Macs and even bought my wife one finally so she could be computer problem free / virus free / spyware free and overall have more time for the rest of life…. but am I still as happy as NOW as I was in the picture above when my MacBook Pro arrived? no. I really could have waited, and maybe I should have. Now don’t get me wrong, I am as passionate as ever about the Mac, and am still convinced that anyone who loves time, enjoys productivity, and hate viruses/spyware/virus software/ and constant problems should still switch to Mac…. and their life will drastically improve, BUT while I am still very pleased with the OS and all the integration of software on the Mac, my MacBook Pro has significant issues that make me wish I could return it and go back to my…
