Hello Sky Mountain Campers!

Hello Sky Mountain Campers! Welcome to my blog!

If you typed in www.pastorkarl.com – you are at the right place, it just switches to Kidologist.com once you get here. This is my “home” on the web, and from here you can “jump” to all my different websites. I’ll be updating this post as I get more pictures and videos posted, so be checking back, but I wanted to get a post up right away, before I left camp!

If you want to e-mail me, here’s what to do. I don’t want to post the e-mail online, otherwise I’ll get a bunch of SPAM! (that’s junk e-mail) But YOU can e-mail me! Here’s what to do!

Just e-mail the name of the name of the cool Robot Puppet that I had at camp, followed by @kidology.org – and that will go right to me!

If you want to write a letter to me, just e-mail and ask for my address, and I’ll send it to you. Got that? For example, IF the robot’s name was BOB, the e-mail would be BOB@kidology.org Of course, it wasn’t BOB, but YOU know what it was!

I look forward to hearing from you, and I always write back! (But please be patient if it’s not instant!)

What a beautiful camp, and what a great place to connect with God!

JUST FOR FUN:

If you are looking for the “BEAR STORY” you can find it: HERE. But here is a sneak peek at the picture: (click image to see it bigger)

You can see other bear pictures of mine on my Yosemite Website: YosemiteSummit.org – They aren’t all in one place, the best thing to do is watch the highlight videos linked at the top, 2008, 2009, 2010, etc.

If you want to see me on CBS News, dressed like a Jedi, I’d rather you NOT watch it, but you can read about it, and watch it here: http://tinyurl.com/KarlonCBSnews

If you haven’t been to TOYBOXTALES.com – you for sure will want to check that out, and be sure to go back into the Archives where the Action Figure Movies are, especially the Star Wars ones, you will love them!

Oh, and did you see my awesome hiking stick?

Oh, and I’m sure you miss my cool Transformer hand, so here is a picture of it to show your mom and dad:

But one of my highlights – besides seeing some of you make important decisions for Christ and many get baptized – was going on the hike to the water fall, and joining the Elite Polar Bear Club! If you didn’t get to experience this bone chilling event, I have good news for you… I video taped it and posted it on YouTube!

I had a lot of fun getting to know all of you! It was a great week – I hope you learned a lot and that you experienced God transforming you as we looked through the Bible at different people that God transformed in the Bible.

If you liked my stories, you’ll love my novel that I wrote for kids your age!  You can check out the website for the book here: It is called The Order of the Ancient. You can order it here: BUY KARL’S BOOK! SPECIAL DEAL: If you use the coupon code: skymtn when you check out, it will take $2 off the cost of the book, how’s that? AND mention you are from Sky Mountain Camp in the comments, and we’ll make sure it is shipped from my house and I’ll auto-graph the book and personalize it for you – be sure to put your name too, so I can put your name in it for you!

I will be praying for you as you head back home and back to your regular life situations that they transformation you experienced at camp will ‘stick’ and that you will continue to see God working in your life as you follow Him!

I’ll be adding more to this page later… so be sure to check back! I look forward to hearing from you! Follow the instructions at the top for e-mailing me, and don’t worry about how to spelling the puppets name, I’ve set up several different ways – so you can’t go wrong!

Can you find me? If you were at camp, can you find yourself???

The Gospel According to Flying Chickens?

I’m currently speaking at Camp Timber-lee, and posted on Facebook that I got to share the Gospel with flying chickens this morning!

Gave me the idea… I wondered if anyone might like to take a stab at guessing how one might share the Gospel with flying chickens! For the BEST “Gospel Presentation with Flying Chickens” provided in comments, whether it is the one I used, plain funny, or another great original idea – I’ll mail you one of MY flying chickens!

I’m teaching this week on Spiritual Climbing, a topic I have done here many times, so I wanted to a take a totally new approach (my past series is available on Kidology) so I am going through the Awesome Adventure Series (gave a copy to each camper) adding an object lesson with a piece of hiking equipment I use when I go hiking and comparing to spiritual growth, but for the game, I created 12 games with these flying chickens I got on sale at an outlet store! The store couldn’t believe it when I took every chicken in the store up to the counter!

But when you find something that is usually over $10 for only $3 – a smart children’s pastor buys them all! Every game is now an object lesson that fits my lesson! The campers are going nuts over these flying chickens, and they even make noise after they hit the ground. You HAVE to have unique games like this when you are a camp speaker, it ends up being the high light. Of course, I have a new puppet as well, he is a monkey name Pogi, who sounds like Yogi Bear, but Pogi is a Filipino word. Go ahead, Google it.

SO THE CONTEST IS ON! How would YOU share the Gospel with Flying Chickens? Share in Comments? (or just comment for fun!)

Hey Hartland Campers!

Hey Hartland Campers! I’m finally home, after spending a week in Yosemite with my family. I had a Super Duper GREAT time with you at camp! I enjoyed traveling back in time and pretending to be….

Count Karl deBastian

We played our own Medieval Times Battles!

I even celebrated when I beat the kids (I know, it wasn’t even fair)

But then it was time for your favorite knight: Sir Arty Learnalot (from Sure Word Forest)

Of course, you guys liked his RAPS best of all!

I felt bad about his “arm rod issues” but its hard to wear armor when you’re a puppet!

Of course, Arty’s job was always to correct the bad teaching of my Arch Nemesis who would come out early in the worship time and write a non-virtue on my white board… you know his name…

The Duke of Defiance!

He left his evil note all over camp trying to ruin my lessons and throw you off from the Nine Virtues we were learning. In case you forgot… here are the nine Vices “The Duke” tried to teach you, and the Virtue I was teaching later in the lesson:

Here is the Duke’s Virture, followed by the REAL Virture and then the Bible Character we studied in order to see it in action!

Wimpiness / Courage (As seen in the life of David)
Fibbocity / Truth (As seen in the life of Peter)
Disnicity / Honor (As seen in Jesus as a boy)
Abondonocity / Loyalty* (As seen in the life of Esther)
Looseygooseyness / Discipline (As seen in the life of Daniel)
Mefirstiveness / Hosptitality (As seen in the life of Mary w/ Martha)
Laziosity / Initiative** (As seen in the life of Nehemiah)
Meism / God-Reliance*** (As seen in the life of Ruth)
Upgiving / Perseverance (As seen in the life of Noah)

*The virtue is actually Fidelity, but loyalty is an easier word for kids.
** The virtue is actually Industry, but I used the word initiative instead.
*** The original virtue is Self-Reliance, but as Christians we believe in God-Reliance

Then it was time to DRAW the Bible Story as I taught the lesson, I really enjoy drawing!

My artistic abilities seem to have peaked in second grade, as you can see… in grade school I was considered an awesome artist… but it seems I never improved since them! LOL

As you can see: (Watch, this picture changes every three seconds!)

If you are counting, yes, one is missing. I didn’t draw one for Noah, instead Arty rapped the story, remember.

If you’d like to see a large image of the drawings, here are some links to see them in a new window really big. Just click the ones you want to see:

COURAGE (David) | TRUTH (Peter) | HONOR (Jesus)

LOYALTY (Esther) | DISCIPLINE (Daniel) | HOSPITALITY (Mary)

INITIATIVE (Nehemiah) | GOD-RELIANCE (Ruth)

And then the true identy of “The Duke” was revealed when you all knelt and prayed for him and he was UNMASKED! And we learned about the “Duke inside of all of us” and read from Romans 7:15-25 and remember our paraphrase of Galatians 5:17

For the “The Duke in side you” (your sin nature) desires what is contrary to the Lord, and the Lord what is contrary to “The Duke.” They are in conflict with each other, so that you you do not do what you want.

We talked about how our sin nature is like the “Duke,” he chooses the easy way or the way that comes naturally, instead of God’s Way, or the virtuous way.

It was a lot of fun getting to know you all and sharing the week at camp with you! Here are some of the links online that you were asking for that I promised to post:
